To the Question of the Metaphysical Status of the Rose of the World by Daniil Andreyev

Abstract

The article examines the phenomenon of the Rose of the World by Daniil An­dreyev in the aspect of its metaphysical content. The dynamics of changes in this content of the period from 1956 to 1958 is analyzed; the metaphysical meaning of the phenomenon is considered, contained in the XII Act and the Afterword of the “Iron Mystery” (1956) and, on the other hand, in the XII Book of the “me­tahistorical treatise” “The Rose of the World” (1958). An observation is made about the discrepancy and difference of contents that Andreyev puts into the phe­nomenon of the Rose of the World of the “Mystery” and “treatise”, as well as the changing attitude of the author towards it a short time after his release from Vladimir prison. The facts of the presence of two variants of the phenomenon (the Rose of the World of the “Mystery” and the Rose of the World of the “treat­ise”) and the decrease in its metaphysical significance from 1956 to 1958 are re­corded. Assumption is made about the significant influence of socio-political factors (repression) on the transgression of Andreyev the writer: on the exit from artistic discourse and subsequent introduction to integral (“mythical”) know­ledge. It is concluded that it is necessary to take into account the cultural and traumatic nature of the gained experienced by the repressed artist when analyz­ing the result of his holistic cognition – the newest mythical chronotope Rose of the World.
