Vladimir Solovyov and the Future of Russian Philosophy (International “Round Table” Materials)

In April of 2023, an international “round table” “Vladimir Solovyov and the future of Russian philosophy” was held at “A.F. Losev House”, dedicated to the 170th anniversary of the philosopher’s birth. The organizer was the editors of the journal “Voprosy filosofii” with the participation of “A.F. Losev House – research library and memorial museum” and research project “Literature through philosophical prism: the history of Russian lyrics in Vladimir Solovyov’s aesthetics” (IWL RAS). Philosophers, historians of philosophy, and philologists took part in the discussion. The following questions were the focus of their attention: the significance of the philosophical ideas of Vladimir Solovyov for understanding the trends of modern Russian philosophy; the relevance of the metaphysics of “All-unity” of Vl. Solovyov and modern epistemology of science: against positivism; relevant meanings of Solovyov’s sophiology: a look into the future; Vl. Solovyov’s contribution to the development of the “Russian meta‐physical language”; Vl. Solovyov in the Russian philosophical “sphere of conversation”: interlocutors and institutions; social and philosophical doctrine of Vladimir Solovyov and its modern interpretations; “sobornost” as a problem of Russian philosophy; historical experience of Vladimir Solovyov as a search for “limits”: how is it possible to “think to the end”; Solovyov and his “Honored modern interlocutors”: A.F. Losev, P.P. Gaidenko, S.S. Khoruzhiy; the significance of Solovyov’s aesthetical ideas for the understanding of the literary process. The core of the discussions that arose during the deliberations of the subject was the question of the specific role of Vl. Solovyov in the formation of Russian philosophy.
