Science in the Age of Biocapitalizm

The article is an attempt to disclose the most important aspects of life sciences in the context of modern society. Based on the concept of biocapitalism, the author draws attention to the fact, that modern genomic, biomedical research is a so-called venture science. Venture science requires high-risk statements and risky investments. It contains facts and promises, the truth, and success, ethical values and business imperatives that are closely and contradictorily intertwined. The author pays special attention to the fact, that modern genomic, biomedical knowledge is constituted, developed and maintained as part of the extensive networks that combine a whole variety of social and cultural elements.
