Abstract

The article is devoted to the discussions of italian scientist of the philosophy of the politics
and law Norberto Bobbio, the supporter of a liberalism, with theorists of the communist party of
Italy under the leadership of P. Togliatti. The questions of the relationship between politics and
culture, of the political role of intellectuals in democratic society, of the political engagement
and responsibility of intellectuals conducts the participants of the debate to the formulation
of the problem of freedom concerning politics and culture. The dialogue of the communism
and liberalism in the persons of Togliatti and Bobbio represents the most interest page in the
intellectual history of the postwar Europe.
