Arab “Renaissance” as Project of Modernization
E.A. FROLOVA
Abstract
Shall we ever see a revival of a one-time brilliant culture of Arabian East? From 19th
century and up to the present day Arabian philosophers, politicians and religious fi gures try to
answer this question. Attitude-dependent topic of Revival turns out to be linked to the concepts
of modernization, revolution, enlightenment, resurrection of past culture and institutions of the
earlier Islam. The treatment of the Western culture, the singularity of their own culture, as well as
the demand for changing the nation’s consciousness, all these issues, which for many centuries
remained in the fetters of a conservative religion, comes now into the focus of the ideologists of
Revival attention.
