Abstract

The article deals with the self-description discourse of Japan as a “Sun Land”, one of the basic features of Japanese culture from ancient times to modernity. Shinto priests, Buddhist monks, and Confucian thinkers contribute to the “Sunny Japan” image, and, by all philosophical differences, they justifi ed a sun-nature of Japanese country.
