Abstract

The tradition of organizing World Congresses of Philosophy started in 1900. In August 1968, the XIV World Congress of Philosophy was held in Vienna. It was attended by more than three thousand philosophers. The following topics were proposed for discussion at the Congress: “Spirit, peace and history”, “Freedom: responsibility and decision”, “Language: semantics and hermeneutics”, “Philosophy and ideology”, “Philosophy and science”. Soviet delegation also took part in the Congress. It included representatives of the “Voprosy Filosofii” journal: the Chief editor I.T. Frolov and the head of Department of criticism and bibliography L.N. Mitrokhin. We offer our readers a unique document: the transcript of I.T. Frolov's speech at the meeting of the editorial Board with a report on the results of the Vienna Congress of Philosophy as well as his personal impressions. The document was discovered by the Group studying the creative heritage of academician I.T. Frolov (Institute of philosophy, Russian Academy of Sciences) in the archive of I.T. Frolov.
