Problem of Free Choice in Shahnameh

Abstract

In Shahnameh Abu ’l-Qasim Ferdowsi outlines the importance of such questions as problems
of justice and loyalty, responsibility of man before his family and society, freedom, love,
honour, bravery and duty. The heroes are before moral dilemma, they have to choose among values,
which often go against each other. At the same time, heroes of Shahnameh fully realize, that
there is no satisfying choice. Such a position would be impossible without referring to philosophe
of Muslim renaissance. As the most medieval thinkers of East Ferdowsi puts responsibility
of existing of evil on man. But in his works strength and dignity of man are determined by the
fact, that evil and good are made by man on the basis of free will.
