Abstract

Georgy Fedotov, alongside the authors of the collection of essays Vekhi (Landmarks –
1909) and some other representatives of the Russian religious philosophical renaissance of the
late 19th – early 20th centuries, offered one of the most profound interpretations of the Russian
catastrophe that started in 1917 and the deepening European crisis of the first half of the 20th
century.
However, there was a fundamental difference between Fedotov and the authors of Vekhi.
While the latter had a critical influence on the Russian domestic discourse since the end of the
19th century, Fedotov’s voice was only heard by his compatriots after a quarter of a century –
in 1926.
