“Galen on Hippocrates” in the context of Astromedicine

Abstract

The article attempts to identify the philosophical principles underlying the ancient astromedicine,
which is refl ected in the context of such medieval monument. Reconstruction
of the philosophical meaning of the text “Galenovo on Hippocrates” reclaims appeals to
the ancient magical-hermetic tradition. The study of ancient medical practices leads to the
wrong conclusions about the speculative character of ancient natural philosophy. Disclosed
principles of the Zodiac signs, it focuses on the principle of universal magnetism. The data
of scientific research and magnetism problem are discussed. The natural cosmic cycles,
which is subordinate to human life and health, were the focus of astromedicine. The geocentric
view of the world had astrological significance. Astrological significance of drugs,
including the recommendations of ancient monument, is revealed. A comparison of ancient
and modern science leads to the conclusion that dialogue between the two systems of worldviews
is possible.
