Information-Theoretic Twist in Interpretation of Quantum Mechanics: Philosophical and Methodological Analysis

The paper deals with the so called information-theoretic turn in the interpretation of
quantum mechanics. The aim of the turn was a deeper understanding of the foundations
of quantum mechanics; the source of it was the emergence of successfully developing
technological applications of quantum theory (quantum computer, quantum teleportation,
quantum cryptography). The turn is based on the assumption that the early Copenhagen (Bohr’s)
interpretation of quantum mechanics is factually a theory of information. The author analyzes
debates in the contemporary philosophy of science concerning the expediency of the turn. The
point of view that it undermines the position of realism in the physics of micro-world is being
disproved. Some possible outcomes of the information-theoretic turn are being considered.
