Abstract

This article deals with a well-known American psychologist Rudolf Arnheim (1904–2007)
is. The main subject of his works is analysis of cognitive meaning of visual perception, specially,
art perception. That is a subject of his fundamental study “Art and Visual Perception”, where
he is analyzing the structure and cognitive role of the visual images. Arnheim to adduce a term
“visual thinking” and wrote a book on this subject. Arnheim psychology made a great infl uence
on contemporary art history, including the works by E. Panofsky, H. Sedlmayr, E.H. Gombrich,
аnd others.
