Abstract

The article introduces a brief analysis of the views of an eminent Japanese philosopher Watsuji Tetsurō (1889–1960). He was the fi rst in Modern Japan who attempted to create a theory of Anthropology as a system of Ethics, based upon national spiritual tradition. Such works as “Climate” and “Ethics”, especially his controversy with Ren. Descartes and Martin Heidegger are mentioned here. One of the main Watsuji’s concepts aidagara (“field of confi dence”) is alsoconsidered.
