This paper attempts to describe philosophy, based on the discourse paradigm of analysis: as text, reasoning and communication. The author distinguishes two core functions of philosophical discourse: conceptual and outlook functions. Conceptual function is described as constructing concepts, by which the categorization of the extremital foundations of being and cognition. The author discusses the dialogical character of philosophical works, the phenomenon of philosophical controversies, the character of philosophical debates or discussions, literary genres of philosophical discourse. The outlook function features building the worldview and defi ning the life meaning grounds of the human existentia. The paper also discusses a confl ict between theism and atheism and grounds the principle of tolerance in the sphere of outlook.
