Abstract

In the first part of the paper, the author summarizes the current scientific views on the phoneme and syllable in different languages, and then moves on to the history of writing and the development of its various forms, and after that examines possible applications of these concepts to the history of culture in the broader sense. In the second part he explores possible parallels between the alphabetic principle and the atomism.
