Transformations of Identity
Abstract
The article covers the transformations of identity in the context of philosophy, cultural studies and cultural anthropology from Antiquity (Plato) till contemporary social and cultural processes. Particular attention is given to the passage from exclusive national and/or ethnic identities to plural identities characterizing contemporary life and multiple cultural communities (from professional groups, social and demographic strata till the interest groups). The changes in this fi eld are orchestrated by artists and made possible by new communication technologies, particularly electronic and digital. The multiplication of different types of screens (cinemas, television, computers, mobile devices and games oriented gadgets) and their interrelations (especially due to cloud technologies) lead to concepts of transformation society and transculturalism.
